The restauration campaigns
The center collects sometimes badly damaged documents, which have been conserved for years in extreme conditions : stored in cellars or attics, glued on rigid substrates, highly exposed to light … many degrading factors that accelerate the weathering processes and threaten their integrity.
Many of them are unique, rare, with inestimable historical value … To be rehabilitated, they are assigned to a specialist restorer, working in compliance with international restoration principles : preliminary archaeologically studying the document, keeping transparency and reversibility of the performed operations …
Once restored, documents are digitalized and provided to the researchers, but also used for exhibitions.
